OK - so this took me much longer than it should have, but you can now have a Google FriendConnect members widget in b2evolution!

To install:

  1. You must register with Google FriendConnect at http://www.google.com/friendconnect/.
  2. Download the widget from here.
  3. Unzip the widget in your plugins directory.
  4. Install the widget in the backoffice (Global Settings -> Plugins Install -> Install New)
  5. Add the widget to your blog (Blog Settings -> Widgets -> Add Widget)
  6. Finally - edit the settings for the widget and enter your FriendConnect site ID (which is obtained from Google)

That's it! You're now the proud owner of a FriendConnect members widget!

Depending on your skin, you may need to edit the default settings - color, width, and such.

If you need any help with this - there's a thread here and I'll be happy to help you.

What does this widget do that is different then just pasting the code from google in a freehtml widget? or are there issues with doing that?

Thanks!

This is mostly a convenience widget - it makes it easy to set up and maintain for those who don't like to get down and dirty with the code. A separate contained widget makes it easy to position it independent of anything else you might want to put in a freehtml widget.

I think this is a good idea. There are a lot of people who are put of by any sort of coding and it's good to see that you have come up with a solution to this.

I have installed your plugin and added the widget, and have registered with google friendconnect. I am getting an error as follows: Notice: Undefined index: SCRIPT_URL in /usr/local/apache/htdocs/blogs/plugins/google_friendconnect_plugin/_google_friendconnect.plugin.php on line 249

Can you give me some advice please on how to fix this error.
Thank you

Looks like this is caused by PHP and Apache interacting funny. I'm going to look into this and try to find something better than $_SERVER['SCRIPT_URL'] to use.

I can't reproduce this problem myself (especially since I don't want to intentionally bring down my blog). Can anyone having this problem try replacing (on line 249) $_SERVER['SCRIPT_URL'] with either $_SERVER['SCRIPT_NAME'] or $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']? Let me know if this helps. Thanks!

Google Friend Connect wasn't working for me when I hard coded it into an HTML widget (for some reason it said my URL was incorrect), so I downloaded this plugin and it works fine. :) So there's a use for it! Thanks!

Rodger + Phillip, I got that error too. I just added an @ to the beginning of the function on line 249 to hide the error, everything else seems to work fine:
$parent_url = @implode(explode("/", $_SERVER['SCRIPT_URL'], -1));
